29 June - 1 July: Copenhagen Choir Trip

Very nice trip, lovely host choir

25 - 28 June

Mon:  Cycled to gym (5miles total)/swam 1.75km.  Then decided to do the Chiltern 100 Corto route as weather forecast was sunny.
Took 4:50 bike time, but I did stop a few times to recharge energy and fluids.  Flagged towards end, but made it up all the hills.  Legs feel it though.  57.68miles, so with the 6.08 to start and back from home, plus mornings 5, gives almost 75miles for the day.  Not bad for an old fella.

Tue: Cycle & swim (1.5km). Feeling surprisingly OK after yesterday's ride.

Wed:  Cycle/swim at lunchtime.  Sampled Peppermill (under old management) in evening for a pizza - met Mark and Nula there.

Thu: Cycle/swim in morning.  Hillingdon Consultants Dinner at Coworth Park, Ascot - very nice venue and food, shame about the M25 traffic getting there.

18 - 24 June: Lots of musical evenings

Mon:  A bit achey top of thighs and left hip.  Running is definitely not my thing.  Granny to dentist at lunchtime.  Got Nigel out of his chair and into Strattons for a coffee and cake.  Mowed lawn, generally tidied up after the weekend festivities.  Took Lulu to Luton to go to Ibiza in the evening.

Tue: Run/swim.  Walked to choir in the evening, concert on Saturday, almost there but still having to sightread a couple of the songs as though I was singing them for the first time.

Wed: Run/swim, though Mrs M did give me a lift back from the gym in the car as she was there as well.  Still feeling in recovery mode after the weekend. Put rack back on Lulu's bike.

Thu: Tandem to coffee in Little Chalfont.  Front brakes squeak but that can be easily sorted.  Chiswick House Madame Butterfly with Jeremy & Caroline.  Did it rain?  YES.

Fri:  In Evening Grange Park Idemeneo (Mozart) with usual cantab crew.  Excellent evening and food and conversation, only a few showers, shame we had to listen to the Opera and not continue our conviviality.

SatWalked down Whitelands with Nigel.  Concert practice in afternoon (Cherry cycled 18miles to Chesham, good girl), then Chiltern Choir Summer Concert.  Delightful.  Light meal and drink in Cricketers in Sarratt afterwards, OK but not stunning food.

Sun: Picked up Lulu & Jon from Stanstead. Sathi in evening.

11 - 17 June: Build up to Triathlon weekend

Mon: Rainy, and I mean rainy.  Not sure if it would be open because of 'poor' weather, drove early to the Hillingdon Leisure Centre aka Uxbridge renovated Lido to try out wetsuit in the 50m outdoor unheated pool.  There was one other guy without a suit swimming who said they had wanted to shut it but he kicked up a fuss.  First few lengths were tough with a clamping headache from the cold, but then that cleared and it seemed quite OK.  Nice to have the 50m rather than 25m, and I felt good.  Just one my last length of the 1500m the lifeguard told me the pool was shutting because it was raining too much - too wet for swimming it seems!!!.  I wasn't quick getting out of the wetsuit which doesn't bode well for Sunday Tri.  Went into main baths were there is a good 50m indoor pool (heated!) and warmed up in a small spa-like pool then had a shower, but still felt cold.  Back home to take G to dentist, then sort out things around the house.  Started to rain a little less around 4pm, still dark, dismal and grey clouds.  If I was a miserable person, I would be.

Tue:  Run/swim then off to Aunty Gladys' funeral at Buckden near Huntingdon.  Well organised burial and tea in the George, good chats to rellies.  Walked to choir in evening.

Wed: Started off sunny, so decided to do a bike ride of the Chiltern Corto 100 course (56 miles).  Cycled to start at Amersham Rugby Club where I had a short rest, drink and eat, then off......only to remember at Hyde Heath that I'd left my backpack at the club, so back I went for it.  That made 13 miles already, and I didn't want to do 74 miles so I just cycled back to Darvells for 18 in total, then went for a short run around Common - as expected started with legs rubbish but then felt better.  But overall I was tired.  And it clouded over.

After dinner, walked with Mrs M to see Nigel and the  onto Granny's, then back to the Rose & Crown for a Tring Jubilee pint sitting outside.  Quite benign weather despite the threatening dark clouds.

Thu: Sunny start again.  Run/swim.  Then it clouded over.  Put new pads and disc pads on the tandem, they were almost worn down (after 6,000kms since new).  Went out for short tandem ride with Mrs M to the deli in Little Chalfont.  Front brakes squealed but that can be cured with a little toe-in of the pads.  Lulu back home in evening.  We went to White Horse for pub dinner, OKish.

Fri:  Pick Jon up early from airport, then Cherry went to work.  No exercise, I have tapered off!

Sat:  Ditto on tapering.  Registered at Windsor and dropped bikes off.  Lulu birthday tea in afternoon, yummy.

Sun: Up at 4:50am to get to Windsor for Lulu start at 6:28 and ours at 7:15.  Went better than I expected, managed to run the 10k without walking or stopping!

Very happy to have finished!

6 - 10 June

Wed: Chiltern Winery and WineSoc in evening.  Rained nearly all day.

Thu: & Fri: Swim both mornings - drove as it was pouring with rain.  On Friday evening to Ware for Dr Robb's 90th, then onto C&L for night.

Sat: 15m cycle ride around Woburn, very pleasant, not raining, followed by bacon buttie at C&Ls.  Back home, replaced Lulu's broken rear derailleur.  Thanks to Branson, driven up to Barbican to hear Highgate Choral Soc sing various coronation things, than back to M&A's for supper.  Lovely (busy) day.

Sun: Run to/from swim.  Mowed lawn and a bit of gardening.  Lunch with G&N.  Started to rain, thats unusual as normally its already raining all the time.

4 - 5 June: Normandy

Mon: arrived Deippe at 4am local time.  Drove along coast in dark to meet Lulu in Honfleur at 7am where we had breakfast, then wandered round town and museums.  Handed over bike to exchange for her broken one.  The girls set off around 11am.  We drove east, crossed Seine on a free ferry to see Vermigies Abbey, then up to Cadeaux-les-Caux to find the Logis not open till 5pm so we found a bar and had a few drinks till the girls arrived.  Birthday dinner for Cherry in hotel, v. nice french (fois gras etc)

Tue: Into Rouen via Decathlon shopping.  Saw cathedral and walked through old quarter to market place.  Drover back to coast for snack lunch (mussels) then to catch 6pm ferry.  Back home around 11:30.
